The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
This painting is executed on canvas and is unlined. The canvas is slightly slack on its support. There are overall scattered pigment losses, most notably to the lower edge and dark background. There are two patches affixed to the reverse to address previous restoration to the immediate right of her proper left eye and to background near the left edge at center. The paint layer is stable and under a clear varnish that has yellowed with age. There is an overall uneven network of craquelure and marks ion the recto which correspond to the stretcher. Under natural light, retouching to minimize the appearance of craquelure and to address pigment loss is visible. There is a circular area of retouching to the upper edge at right of center. Inspection under ultraiovlet light is largely impeded by an opaque varnish. The painting's appearance could be improved bu cleaning the surface dirt and revarnishing, however the painting could be hung in its present state. The painting is offered in a gilt wood and painted frame.
