The painting is executed on canvas supported on the reverse with a glue lining which retains good tension. The paint layer is stable under a varnish with a glossy sheen. There is a craquelure across the surface. In natural light restorations to a tear at center left measuring 10 inches is visible. A smaller tear at upper left has also been repaired and measures 5 1/2 inches. A small hole at lower center measuring 1 inch in diameter is also visible to the unassisted eye. Restorations to the sky are visible in natural light and in the catalogue image. Ultraviolet light confirms the aforementioned restorations and revealed a campaign of feathered inpainting to minimize the craquelure and repair tiny losses. Overall, the painting presents well and is offered in a Dutch style frame.
