The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.

Each painting is executed on a wood panel of horizontal grain. Each panel is comprised of two horizontally oriented boards supported by a cradle on the reverse. Both works have stable paint layers and under a clear varnishes that have yellowed with age. There is scattered minor flaking and pigment losses to each panel. Under natural light, scattered areas of retouching to each painting, including to the panel joins, are visible. Inspection under ultraviolet light was hindered by an opaque varnishes. Each painting can be hung in its present state. Further condition noted below.

Saints Mark and John the Evangelist:
There is a 2 inch horizontal hairline crack extending from the right edge into the eagle’s neck, and a 1 1/4 inch horizontal hairline crack at the lower left edge. A short crack at the lower left corner and a few scattered short cracks along the edges are also visible.

Saints Luke and Matthew:
There is evidence of dormant worm holes to the reverse, primarily to the lower board and upper edge. There are three drill holes along the upper edge. There is a repaired horizontal hairline crack running the width of the panel near its center. There are scattered short hairline cracks along the edges.
