The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
The panel is composed single beveled board with a vertical grain and is stable. There is a vertical hairline crack issuing from the lower edge near center and extending approximately 7 inches. There is evidence of wood worm to the reverse of the panel, now inactive. The paint layer is stable, under a varnish that has discolored slightly with age. There are minor losses to the extreme edges. There is scattered pigment flaking, particularly to the upper center portion of the composition. Under natural light, scattered areas of retouching are visible. Inspection under ultraviolet confirms the aforementioned restorations. The painting would benefit from a consolidation treatment to adrees the flaking pigment, but can be displayed in its current state. The work is offered without a frame.
