The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.

The canvas has been relined and is providing stable support for the picture. There is a pattern of craquelure to the paint surface, with an aged, gloss varnish.
The examination under UV reveals restoration to a vertical tear/damage in the upper left, approx. 20 cm in length. It also shows some scattered retouching elsewhere, notably to the edges.
Overall the picture presents well, with good areas of impasto, and the drawing and original brushwork well preserved. The picture’s clarity and tonality may improve on cleaning.
