Condition report
A Christie's specialist may contact you to discuss this lot or to notify you if the condition changes prior to the sale.
The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
The canvas has been delined but retains a good tension on its stretcher. There is a small damage to the foliage of the principal tree (as visible in the illustration). The varnish has discoloured and there are a few spot losses along the left edge associated to frame abrasion. There are some spots of white paint on the surface along the right edge of the composition and some minor surface scuffing, eg. in the foreground, lower right. Examination under ultra violet is largely obscured by the old varnish but evidence of scattered historic strengthening in the sky is visible.
