Condition report
A Christie's specialist may contact you to discuss this lot or to notify you if the condition changes prior to the sale.
The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
The small single-piece oak panel is held under tension by a cradle on the reverse and remains stable. The artist has painted in expressive strokes using the ground layer of the panel, with numerous historic scratches visible across the surface, which do not impact the narrative detail of the painting. Some scratches are visible in the centre of the panel, visible in the illustration, and in the lower left, with restoration along the edge of the panel associated with frame wear. Ultraviolet examination reveals more recent restoration to the whites, particularly in the central figures and dog, and in some of the highlights and low lights in the lower and upper centre.
