The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
This three-piece oak panel is held under tension by a cradle and remains stable. There is historic surface abrasion particularly in the background. Vertical cracks are visible along the upper and lower edges of the panel, along with losses in the lower centre of the panel join (visible in the illustration). The artist’s painterly technique remains appreciable, particularly in the pinks of the costume. There is scattered restoration throughout, particularly in the whites and the flesh tones of the face and hands, along with restoration to the ground. The artist’s technique and detail remains highly appreciable.
