This two-piece oak panel is held under tension by a cradle and remains stable. There are two horizontal cracks in the panel in the upper quadrant: in the left corner, measuring approximately 17 cm, and in the right corner measuring approximately 32 cm. In the lower quadrant, further horizontal cracks Can be found, one in the left-hand corner of approximately 6 cm and one in the right-hand corner of approximately 11 cm. In raking light, restoration is visible along the aforementionedcracks and the central horizontal panel join, as well as to a restored curved scratch running along the right hand centre of the composition of approximately 11 cm. The panel is covered in an old streaky yellowing varnish. There are two small isolated scratches in the paint layer in the lower left corner as well as a cross-shaped scratch in the face of the farthest falling figure in the right-hand side of the composition. There are small isolated paint losses that have been restored in the sky and along the edges of the panel associated with frame wear. Ultraviolet examination is largely obscured by the thick layer of streaky varnish, however isolated layers of historic restoration can be discerned in the highlights of the whites and lowlights of the shadows, particularly in the landscape.
