Fisherman
The canvas has been subject to relining; it is held under tension and remains stable. There is a tear in the canvas of 4.5 cm. diagonally through the fisherman. Examination in natural light shows some scattered retouching to the sky. There has been some slight thinning to the upper paint glazes. Examination under UV light confirms the aforementioned retouching, which has predominently been executed to fill in the historic craquelure. There is scattered retouching to the ground and trees. The varnish precludes further examination. The paint is stable.
Pyramid:
The canvas has been subject to relining; it is held under tension and remains stable. Examination in natural light shows some scattered retouching to the sky. There is some minor retouching to the building, lower left. Examination under UV light confirms the aforementioned retouching. The detailing of the woman on horse back and the whites of the figures have been strengthened. The varnish precludes further examination. The paint is stable.
In both cases the deftness of brushwork and the artistry of composition remain fully appreciable.
