The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
The canvas has been relined and retains a good tension on its stretcher. The picture presents well overall and the wealth of narrative detail remains appreciable. There is some rubbing along the lower edge associated to historic frame abrasion. There is evidence of pencil under drawing in the sky, centre right.
Examination under ultra violet light reveals a diagonal repaired damage (approx 7 in. In length) in the sky and a few more minor repaired damages, including one to the sky above the domes (lower centre).
