The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.

The canvas has a modern glue relining which is flat and stable. The paint surface is somewhat abraded in areas, particularly in the background, and there is pronounced cracking in the red drapery, the center of the left edge and above the white rose at the center of the lower edge.
Inspection under UV reveals fine retouching throughout and restored tears in the chest, knee and some horizontal tears at the lateral edges. The retouching has been sensitively applied and the painting requires no further work.
