The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
The painting presents well, it appears to have undergone conservation in the recent past and requires no further intervention. The canvas has a recent glue lining and is very taut on its stretcher. The paint surface is clean beneath a clear, fresh varnish with a fine, if somewhat pronounced craquelure pattern.
Inspection under UV reveals some small restored and retouched holes or tears in the background, one in the thigh of the male figure and in the shoulder, hip and lower torso of the female figure. There is a small restored loss to her chin and finer retouching to the chest and arm of the male figure.
The painting is ready to hang in its present state and is offered in a decoratively carved gilt wood frame.
