The canvas is supported on the reverse with a glue lining and the plaint layer is stable on the support. The varnish has yellowed slightly over time. Under natural light, a 1 inch area of retouching is visible below the boy's feet. Ultraviolet light does not reveal retouching, however it is possible that some strengthening has been applied to the boy's forehead and areas of the column at right. The painting presents well and should be displayed in its current state.
