The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
The panel is approximately 1⁄8 inch thick and is supported on the reverse with a cradle. The panel is flat. There is a 1⁄8 inch area of lifted paint at upper center left in the sky, with a corresponding pinhead-sized loss, which should be conserved. A similar-sized area of lifting is visible below the right knee of the putto at center right (the one with his head down and left leg in the air). Additional lifting is visible along the left edge in places. Under natural light the varnish is slightly yellowed, and some scratches are visible at lower left. Two 1⁄4 inch strips of wood have been affixed to the left and right edges of the panel, respectively. Under ultraviolet light, the varnish fluoresces unevenly, suggesting that the panel has been selectively cleaned, although no retouching is visible. The painting may be displayed as is, although retouching to fill the small loss could be considered.
