The canvas is supported with a glue lining and the paint is stable on the support. Under natural light, the varnish is clear. Discolored shrinkage cracks are visible in some of the white tones and a fine craquelure is visible in places. Discolored retouches are visible in places in the sky. Under ultraviolet light, scattered strengthening is visible in the sky to the right of the mother’s hip. A 2 x 4 inch area fluoresces on the mother’s leg below her child’s wrist, and a larger passage fluoresces over the mother’s right thigh. Scattered strengthening also fluoresces over the child’s neck and chest. The painting could be displayed as is.
