The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
The uncradled panel is composed of a singular board measuring approximately ¼ inch thick with horizontal wood grain and beveling along all four edges of the reverse. The varnish is minimally cloudy and yellowed and the paint stable on the support. Ultraviolet light reveals lines of retouching along the edges to address earlier frame abrasion as well as isolated dots and lines of retouching in the sky and water, the most notable of which address an old vertical scratch measuring approximately 2 inches in length at center right and a passage measuring approximately ½ inch in diameter in the upper central sky. Aside from some light abrasion, the figures and landscape appear to be in a very good state of preservation. The painting can be enjoyed in its current state or restored, according to taste.
