The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.

The canvas, which appears to be a fragment of a larger composition, is reinforced on the reverse with a wax lining. The thick varnish is generally clear, if slightly yellowed, and the paint stable on the support. Under ultraviolet light the varnish fluoresces green, though some areas of restoration are evident, principally some scattered retouching in the sky and landscape at upper right and further areas of retouching and strengthening at lower left. Further retouching below the fluorescent varnish layer may be expected. The painting can be enjoyed in its present state.
