Miniature embroidered binding, in Fortuny silk pouch. Miniature copies of the New Testament and Psalter were often bound together dos-à-dos ("back to back") in this way in the 17th century, frequently for female owners. "Intimate objects, they invite attention to every detail, attracting ornamentation, sumptuous leathers, sequins and embroidery on elegant silks" (Edison). Two works in one volume, 24º (108 x 48mm). First title with woodcut border, woodcut initials and other typographical ornaments; second title with device, musical notations. Contemporary embroidered dos-à-dos binding worked in silver thread with pink and green rosettes; custom morocco box, blue Fortuny silk pouch (frayed).
