Original Air: Michael Jordan Game-Worn and Player Exclusive Sneaker Rarities
Online 30 July - 13 August 2020

The 1992 US Olympic Basketball Team, the “Dream Team,” is arguably the greatest basketball team ever assembled. Team USA steamrolled the rest of the world’s Olympic basketball teams to win the gold medal in the 1992 Summer Games in Barcelona, winning by an average margin of 44 points per game.

This colorway of the Jordan 7 was specifically designed for Jordan to wear in the Olympics, with his Team USA number “9” on the back of each shoe, differing from the “23” on other colorways of the Jordan 7.

The tongue code (920112-FTPS) is sewn on the inside of each shoe, with the typed version of the code indicating that these were an early sample batch made specifically for Jordan, and consistent with the pairs that were in Barcelona, where this pair was sourced. FTPS stands for Feng Tay Player Sample.

These Jordan 7s are photo matched to the August 8, 1992 gold medal game against Croatia, in which Jordan scored 22 points and Team USA won by a score of 117-85. They feature an orthopedic adjustment to the insole, which was to provide Michael Jordan with additional support and comfort for the last few games of the competition. An orthopedic insert has not previously been seen in a Jordan 7 PE from Barcelona to go to market, as Michael Jordan PEs with orthopedic adjustments are extremely rare.

This incredible pair of sneakers from Jordan and a Magic Johnson T-Shirt were both sourced from a receptionist of the Ambassador Hotel in Barcelona where the Dream Team exclusively stayed, gifted as a show of gratitude for running errands for the Dream Team throughout their stay in Barcelona.
