The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
This picture appears to be in good original condition with minimal evidence of restoration. The canvas has been relined and retains a good tension on its stretcher. The paint surface is stable and the thick impasto in details such as the clouds is very well preserved. Examination under ultraviolet light is partly impaired by the old varnish but reveals some minor strengthening to areas of historic abrasion in the darker tones of the landscape near the left edge, and more minor retouching elsewhere. The English eighteenth-century carved giltwood frame is remarkably well preserved.
