The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
Oil on canvas. The canvas had not been lined and appears to be in its original stretcher. The paint layer appears to be secure and stable. The painted surface has some varnish discoloration and some surface dirt. There are some scuffs to the extremities due to frame abrasions with associated very minor paint loss to the upper right edge. There are some faint horizontal stretcher bar lines visible on close inspection in the racking light.
Examination under UV light shows no apparent retouches.
Overall, the painting presents in a gilt composite period style frame. The painting is in good authentic original condition and would benefit from a clean. The catalogue illustration is too yellow and in reality the colours are much warmer.
