If there’s one bear in the world who knows a lot about being an intrepid explorer, and about living off the beaten track one day, then pounding the streets of London the next, it’s Paddington Bear.
Actually, there are two bears! Fellow adventurer, Bear Grylls, has also made a home in London and his courageous adventures have taken him around the globe, each time seeking new challenges. He and Paddington Bear share these characteristics, as well as the same name.
Bear is the Chief Scout and he used this role as inspiration for his design, "It was a real honour to be asked to design a bear for
The Paddington Trail. As Chief Scout, I chose to show Paddington in his neckerchief, ready for his next adventure. Scouting helps girls and boys experience fun, friendship and how to become better prepared for a brighter future. In my working life and as Chief Scout, I spend a great deal of time travelling so Heathrow Airport and Heathrow Express make the perfect location for my bear! Like Paddington, I am an explorer, I hope all the travellers and Scouts who pass by the statue enjoy their time doing the same."
Chief Scout Bear is positioned in the Arrivals area of London Heathrow Airport, which interestingly welcomes people from 120 different countries around the world. Here Paddington can welcome new visitors to London as they step off the plane, ready to create their own London adventures.
