Lot Essay

Movie maker, Guy Ritchie, is known for his love of fashionable London. Well-dressed men often play leading roles in his movies, such as Robert Downey, Jr. and Jude Law in Sherlock Holmes. Most of Guy's films have been set in London, just like the new Paddington movie, and his similarities with the Peruvian bear don't end there.
Paddington's normal duffle coat and hat are iconic men's fashion items. Guy often steps out into society in the finest tailored clothes as well. He created this dapper Paddington with this in mind and was influenced by the famous artist and designer, Cecil Beaton, whose home Guy now owns.
The stylised colourful nature of this bear also relates to the Notting Hill Carnival that takes place here each summer.
