Lot Essay

The creator of this shiny, glamorous Paddington was inspirational and original British fashion designer, Lulu Guinness. Paddington is well known for travelling with his suitcase and Lulu wanted to give it her own personal makeover. She was thrilled to be given the opportunity to dress Paddington and chose her iconic trademark lip print - as seen on many of her clutch bags – as the striking decoration.
The statue's name - Love, Paddington x - isn't only a literal translation of Paddington's adoration for London and its people. It also refers to the latest book title from Paddington's creator, author Michael Bond, which details letters from the wayward bear to his Aunt Lucy in Darkest Peru. This part of the Paddington area has also been home for Michael Bond for many years. Phew, what a lot of coincidences!
