Lot Essay

Celebrated fashion designer Matthew Williamson is known for his exquisite fabrics and textures. He has created Thread Bear, a vibrant reinterpretation of Paddington, by combining his unique signature fabric design with an impressive Peruvian twist.
As a native of Darkest Peru, Paddington is well accustomed to the vibrant prints you see him sporting here. This is something that Matthew was keen to highlight, "Although Paddington has become an icon of British culture, he has a heritage worth celebrating in a rainbow of colour. He doesn’t usually need much help standing out in a crowd, but it's nice to show visitors to London a little of what life was like for Paddington back home."
