Lot Essay

Peru, Paddington's native country, is a very long way from London Bridge station. Even if you were up at the View from The Shard on a clear day, you wouldn’t be able to see it (although you could see up to 40 miles away).
Peru, who designed this bear, would like to draw attention to the fact that Peru isn't actually all that difficult to get to from London Bridge. You simply take a direct train from the station to London Gatwick Airport from where you can catch a flight (but only after you’ve seen everything in London, of course).
The picturesque scene of Peru that decorates Paddington was taken at one of the world's most historically-rich sites: Machu Picchu, the Inca city and UNESCO World Heritage Site. By adopting and decorating this Paddington Bear, Peru celebrates the history, nature, art and cuisine of Paddington's birthplace and hopes that it will inspire you and many others to explore Peru, London and beyond!
