AN UNUSUAL BRONZE STOVE
YUAN-MING DYNASTY, 14TH-17TH CENTURY
The rectangular stove is raised on four mask and paw supports and has a central heating chamber in the hollow interior with a large taotie mask cast on the front between two panels enclosing recumbent qilin in landscape settings. The flat top has a large central and two smaller openings. The back of the stove is cast with two water birds standing in a lotus pond. The sides are set with loose carrying handles attached to angular loops.
8 7/8 in. (22.5 cm.) high, 13 ¼ in. (33.5 cm.) wide, 6 5/8 in. (16.8 cm.) deep
