Lot Essay

Manoah Rhodes was first established in Bradford in 1837 before expanding circa 1870 under the name Manoah Rhodes & Sons. In addition to manufacturing their own time pieces, the firm also retailed clocks imported from France. These works are distinguished by the addition of the inscription ‘Paris’ beneath the Manoah Rhodes signature and movements by French makers, as seen on the present lot. The well-regarded business operated for nearly a century, eventually closing its doors in the mid-1920s.
