The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
This regulateurclock is in good overall condition.
There are some marks and scratches consistent with age and handling.
As stated in the catalogue, the case is spuriously stamped 'E. LEVASSEUR / JME'. There are traces of further stamps 'ANSE'? to the back uprights, possibly for Georges Jansen (master in 1767), or Jeanselme (active from 1824) in his capacity as a dealer-restorer.
The clock has been largely remounted, such as the cockerel mount surmounting the case, which is stamped 'LB' to the reverse and various of the larger foliate-cast ormolu mounts to the plinth.
The stepped pediment is probably later, probably added in the 19th century alongside the cockerel mount.
The case has been reduced in height at base, with consequential spliced repairs to the veneers to the bottom of square panelled sections. The stepped plinth is probably later. The case's backboard has been replaced.
The ormolu mounts displaying some minor tarnish throughout.
The enamel to the dial has three penny-sized restorations between the 60 and 5, 20 and 25, 40 and 45. The small gilt dot beside the IX marker lacking. The dial and the movement associated.
The hands replaced.
There is a pendulum, weight, and a case key; the winding key lacking.
Christie's recommends that the movement is cleaned and serviced to bring into full working condition. Please note Christie's do not guarantee the working condition, duration or timekeeping of clocks offered for sale.
