Lot Essay

Of square cross-section, the corners moulded with bagua, ‘the Eight Daoist Trigrams’, covered overall in a pale greyish glaze suffused with a network of russet-brown crackles, stopping at the foot ring to reveal the brown dressed body. The base inscribed with a six-character Qianlong reign seal mark.

Compare with a larger Qianlong example, illustrated in Ethereal Elegance-Porcelain Vases of the Imperial Qing, Hong Kong, 2007, p.172, pl.45; and one in the Palace Museum, Beijing, recorded in Qingdai Yuyao Ciqi, vol.1, Beijing, 2005, p.346, pl.159.
