The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
We have sought to record changes in the condition of this piece acquired after its initial manufacture.
- All have scratches and surface wear in keeping with their age. All may have had touches to the pigments.
- The female rider and horse (smaller of the two): there are restored breaks with associated areas of overpainting to several areas of the rider and horse, including the legs, ears, tail of the horse, and the head and left arm of the rider. There is also restoration to the upper section of the female rider and the right side of her body.
- The drummer on horseback: all four legs have been broken and reattached with associated overpainting; there are other isolated areas of restoration, including both of the horse's ears that have possibly been off and reattached, and the tips of the rider’s hands. One ear chipped. Tip of tail chipped. The rider is missing the implement he was carrying.
- The female rider and horse (larger of the two): there are several areas of restoration, including the tip of the tail, left side of the lady, and all four legs which may have been off and reattached; shallow chip to the rear haunch of the horse.
