Each vase has a rounded body and is painted on one side in rich cobalt hues with auspicious and scholarly objects, including a qin, books, incense burners and other archaistic vessels with flowers. The reverse of one is painted with a fisherman in a mountainous river landscape, and the other with a magpie perched on a prunus branch. The base is marked with an underglazed blue double circle.

Gerald Reitlinger（1900-1978），英國藝術史家、考古學家、收藏家。於1930年代遊歷西亞、中亞和中國，兩次參加牛津大學在伊拉克主持的考古發掘，並帶回大量陶瓷標本。1978年，他大部分的收藏永久展出於牛津大學阿什莫林博物館 (Ashmolean Museum)。
