Lot Essay

This flattened jade pendant is carved with the fish overlapping and embracing each other. The motif of twin fish is one of the auspicious emblems of Buddhism and represents freedom from restraint. It also carries the blessing of conjugal bliss.

The present pendant was one of the treasured possessions of Tuyet Nguyet (1934-2020) and Stephen Markbreiter (1921-2014), founders of Arts of Asia magazine.
