Specialist Notes:

This portrait of Che Guevara taken by Alberto Korda in 1960 has become a defining motif of international struggle. Not only his best known work but possibly one of the most famous portraits of the 20th century, this photograph is a stellar example of the power of a photography to transcend its most basic function. The image could have quite easily been overlooked had it not been for the Italian Publisher Giangiacomo Feltrinelli’s appropriation of it for student posters and books. Celebrating Che Geuvara and also cementing his legacy, the image has become emblazoned on everything from t-shirts to flags, posters and mugs. Despite this, it retains its status as a worldwide symbol of revolution and rebellion and is reproduced beautifully in this present lot.
