Specialist Notes:

This work is from what is surely Bert Stern’s best known shoot, The Last Sitting, taken for Vogue in 1962. The shoot, which lasted three days, happened six weeks before Marilyn’s death and these images remain the last magazine pictures taken of her. On news of her death, Vogue decided not to pull the feature, but rather to allow these images, intimate and revealing, to serve as a memorial to the icon, as they continue to do today.
