(59.6 x 74.2 cm.); together with title page, plate list and 'Dear Elephant Sir' essay insert by Romain Gary; number six from an edition of fifteen, plus two artist's proofs; enclosed in clamshell portfolio with gold lettering on spine and cover, 251⁄2 x 311⁄2 in. (64.7 x 80 cm.).

The portfolio of fifteen prints on offer here was self-published by the artist in 2008 and includes his most celebrated images of elephants from 1960 through 1984. Beard chronicled the destruction of savannas, forests and wetlands in East Africa and the resulting starvation of thousands of elephants. An artist, ethnologist and conservationist, Beard cared deeply about bringing attention to these horrific effects of human intervention and climate-change.
