This portrait of Stella Goodall was given to Anne McDonald (1942–2018), founder of an alternative gallery Artspace in San Francisco and contributing editor of Artforum, by Robert Mapplethorpe. It is intimately inscribed to her on the mount verso and stands as a testament to her integral role in the art community and her loving friendship with the artist.

Acquired directly from the artist by founder of Artspace Gallery, San Francisco, Anne Macdonald (1942–2018).
