The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
White earthenware ceramic plate, partially engraved, with coloured engobe and glazes. With terracotta collage (glazed yellow) above the bird: The collage element soundly attached. No chips, cracks or restorations detected. Crazing and a few areas of pitting, inherent to the medium. A small brown fragment under the glaze towards the upper left, from the time of creation. To the reverse, several feet marks with associated losses, consistent with the firing process and removal of kiln furniture. A few areas of thicker clear glaze, consistent with the early production date. Subject to the foregoing, it is our opinion that this work appears to be in generally very good original condition with strong hand-engraving, painterly application of glaze and a crisp scalloped edge to the dish.
