The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
No chips or cracks detected. Some surface dirt, scuffs and handling marks in places. A tiny pin-point loss to the black engobe on the right wing and one or two tiny pin-point losses elsewhere. The inside of the base with some fine firing cracks along the joint, most probably from the time of execution; these appear to be entirely stable. Upon very close inspection, strokes of possible cosmetic retouching in the black engobe in places around the base. Examined under ultra-violet light, there is evidence of cosmetic retouching along the tip of the tail and soft fluoresence around the back of the base, possibly due to old retouching.
