Lot Essay
Lampe femme is a strong example of Picasso’s ability to take the relatively standard shapes of the ceramics produced in Vallauris and personify them into animated works of art. In this example, the handles of the vase curve round the front of the body to create the female face. Striking eyes have been painted at the top of the handles with a strident nose cutting down the centre towards the lips at the bottom of the handles. The work perfectly depicts Picasso’s simple yet extremely effective approach.

Condition report
A Christie's specialist may contact you to discuss this lot or to notify you if the condition changes prior to the sale.
The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
No chips or restorations detected. A fine crack under the right arm, from the time of firing. One or two minor abrasions and spots of stray glaze in places. The clay is slightly uneven in places, from the time of firing. The inside with a few fine lines of crazing to the glaze. Subject to the foregoing, it is our opinion that the work appears to be in generally very good condition.
