Lot Essay

An important Pattern and Decoration artist, Kim MacConnel was also integral to the Holly Solomon Gallery and exhibited with Holly for more than 20 years. This wonderful gouache from Holly’s collection, titled Blue Lips, travelled in 1980 to Venice for the 39th Biennale and was shown in the American Pavilion as part of the Drawings: The Pluralist Decade exhibition, which then travelled to the Institute of Contemporary Art in Philadelphia.
