Specialist Notes:

‘Arman’s work is an act of comprehension with respect to the world around it, and as such it is necessarily ritualistic. Arman has made the statement that every object has a kind of ‘critical mass’ that determines how many examples of the object must be brought together before the object can no longer be seen or, on the other hand, it can really be seen for the first time. Arman’s work is a continuous process of demystification, a continuous rite of purification, a continuous process of seeing the object for the first time’ (H. Martin, Arman, New York 1973, p. 53).
