Specialist Notes:Untitled is one of Olafur Eliasson’s early photographs of his native Scandinavia, conceived the same year that he graduated from the Royal Danish Academy of Art. Begun in the early 1990s, the series of photographs was taken during the artist’s annual hiking trips in Iceland and was conceived as studies for concepts he went on to explore in his installation art. Taken while in motion, walking, sailing or flying, his photographs of the landscape explore the importance of time and motion in the act of looking. Indeed Eliasson’s larger practice of installations, paintings, photography and films have all interrogated concepts surrounding cognition and perception.
