Lot Essay
Dinner services decorated with the elegant pattern of two peacocks are claimed to be designed for King Joao VI of Portugal (1767-1826) who brought the service with him to Brazil when he became the country's emperor in 1825. The design is still in demand today. Several pieces with the double-peacock pattern were sold with Christie's, see for example a pair of large basins and dishes, Christie's London, 30 September 2014, lot 66.
