The dish is decorated in iron red, green and yellow enamels to the interior with a central roundel enclosing a scholarly figure in contemplation beside a smoking censer and vase of peacock feathers. The everted rim is painted with four cartouches enclosing prunus, chrysanthemums, peonies and lotus, all reserved on a floral diaper ground.
