A SET OF FIVE BLUE AND WHITE 'DESHIMA ISLAND' PLATES
KANGXI PERIOD (1662-1722)
Each dish is decorated in the Japanese style possibly copying a Dutch Delft original in the manner of Frederick van Frytom, the pattern traditionally also known as 'Deshima Island', depicting three figures and a bull in the foreground of various buildings around a harbour, within a washed-blue wave border on the flat rim. One dish, possibly Japanese.
7 5/8 in. (19.5 cm.) diam.
