LINCOLN, Abraham (1809-1865). Partly-printed document signed ("Abraham Lincoln") as President, Washington, 12 August 1861.

One page, 492 x 384mm, countersigned by Simon CAMERON (1799-1889) as Secretary of War (mild toning at margins, mounted to a board). Framed.

Lincoln commissions a cavalry officer who served at Shiloh, Stone's River, and Murfreesborough. Although the commission assigns Copley Amory as a "Second Lieutenant in the First Regiment of Cavalry", the Massachusetts born, Amory (1841-1879) actually served in the fourth cavalry, rising to the rank of first lieutenant, resigning his commission at the end of 1863.
