Lot Essay

Ebner & Gabelmann record only two impressions, the present one and another photographically documented in the artist's archive (present whereabouts are unknown).
The brown wash is also mentioned by Kornfeld in 1988, and appears to be integral to this impression.
The subject relates to a very similar painting (Hüneke 1909-91) and a drawing, which where presumably created in Dangast, where Heckel spent the summer of 1909 together with Karl Schmidt-Rotluff.
