The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
In addition to the catalogue description:
- the colours exceptionally bright and fresh.
- the full sheets, each with a deckle edge above.
- each sheet float mounted (visible to the sheet edge).
- a little minor rubbing in places, mainly to the matt black background, as is common with these prints.
- soft creasing at the sheet corners, and occasionally in places at the sheet edges, visible in raking light.
- very light pressure indentations in the subjects near the border lines, visible in raking, caused by hinges verso.
- cockling to the sheets.
- Fertility #4 with an 8 cm. flattened crease (possibly from the printing process) in the lower left subject, over the feet of the figure at left, only visible in raking light; two small elliptical blemishes on the stomach, and to knee of the figure at right.
- Fertility #5 with an unobtrusive 3 cm. elliptical handling crease on the borderline upper centre, with minor cracking to the printed surface.
- due to the scale of the works only Fertility #3 has been examined out of the frame: the sheet has been tightly hinged with paper tape along all four sides verso to a paper support (the hinging at only one corner was cut, so the reverse of the sheet has not been examined).
- each in the Martin Lawrence frames (with perspex), as acquired by the present owner, with their label verso stating 'This work of art is framed with acid-free hinging and backing materials'.
Otherwise as described and in very good condition.
